Last week, the Joint Forestry Team (JFT) met in Washington, D.C. to hear from leadership and shape a work plan for the coming year. The JFT, established in 2007, consists of representatives from the U.S. Forest Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), National Association of State Foresters (NASF) and NACD. NACD is represented by Johnny Sundstrom (JFT chairman, Ore.) and Charles Holmes (Ala.) and Tom Crowe (Ind.), both of whom also serve on the NACD Forest Resource Policy Group.
In his address to JFT members and guests, NACD President-elect Lee McDaniel stressed the value of working together.
“By having a partnership like this, and a common goal, it gives us an advantage when entering the political arena to seek what we need instead of each of us trying to go it alone,” McDaniel said.
The four members of the JFT have shared ideas over the past seven years about program monitoring, technical service delivery, and even worked to draft a common template that multiple agencies can use to shape forest management plans.
