“Forests in the Farm Bill” Coalition Sends Letter to House Leadership

Last week, the Forests in the Farm Bill Coalition (FIFB) sent a letter to Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) calling for the passage of a five-year Farm Bill.

The letter cited that the nation’s forests and the associated forest industry employ over 900,000 people in family-wage jobs and generate more than $175 billion in products every year. Without the passage of a five-year Bill, increasing threats from insects, disease, wildfire, development pressures and loss of markers for forest products will go unaddressed. Farm Bill conservation, forestry and energy programs give forestland owners the tools they need to manage healthy and sustainable forests.

The letter was signed by 72 forestry and conservation groups, including NACD. For more information on FIFB, click here.
